Albuquerque Isotopes manager Tim Wallach has been named the "Best Manager Prospect" in the Pacific Coast League by Baseball America, an accolade bestowed to the skipper in the PCL most likely to one day manage in the Major Leagues.
In its annual "Best Tools" issue which ranks the top players and managers in both the Major and Minor Leagues, Baseball America selected Wallach over 15 worthy PCL managers in part because he has led Albuquerque to a 70-55 record, second best in the PCL, entering play on August 20.
Under the steady leadership of Wallach, who is in his first year managing at Triple-A and just his third season managing at any level, the 'Topes have spent the last 60 consecutive days in sole possession of first place in the PCL's American Southern Division, despite having a roster that undergone over 150 transactions since the season began.
In addition to a possible playoff appearance, the second in Isotopes history and the first since 2003, the 'Topes under Wallach are nine wins away from eclipsing a franchise record for wins in a season.
A veteran of 17 Major League seasons as a player, Wallach was a five-time National League All-Star, a three-time Gold Glove Winner, and twice won the Silver Slugger Award.
The Isotopes are back in town this Saturday for a 13-game homestand, the longest in team history, that kicks off with a visit by the Zooperstars on Saturday before a seat cushion giveaway to the first 3,000 fans on Sunday.
Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line www.albuquerquebaseball.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
